ID Protection, at times also called Privacy or WHOIS Protection, is a service that hides the real contact info of domain registrants on WHOIS lookup web sites. Without protection, the name, address and email account of any domain name registrant will be publicly accessible. Giving fake information during the registration procedure or altering the authentic details later will simply not work, as doing such a thing may result in the registrant losing his/her domain ownership rights. The policies adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), require that the WHOIS info must be correct and up to date at all times. The ID Protection service was launched by domain name registrars as an answer to the arising concerns about potential identity fraud. If the service is active, the registrar company’s contact information will be shown instead of the domain name registrant’s upon a WHOIS lookup. Most domains support the ID Protection service, although there are some country-code extensions that do not.

ID Protection in Cloud Website Hosting

If you order a cloud website hosting package from our company, you’ll be able to activate ID Protection for any of your domains provided that their extensions support the service. You can register/transfer a domain and enable ID Protection during the account activation procedure or you can activate the service for any of your domains at any moment later via the Hepsia Control Panel. The procedure is extremely easy – after you log in, you will need to go to the Registered Domains section where you will find a list of all the domains that you have registered through our company. For each one of them you’ll notice an “ID Protect” symbol, which will inform you if the service is enabled or not. By clicking on it, you can either ID-protect the domain, or you can turn off the service if it is currently activated.

ID Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Enabling ID Protection for any domain is really easy if you have a semi-dedicated server. If the domain is registered with our company, it will be displayed in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel that comes with each and every semi-dedicated server plan. If a given generic or country-code top-level domain name is ID Protection-eligible, you’ll notice a small logo to the right of that domain. To activate the service, you’ll have to click on it. In the exact same manner, you can also renew or deactivate the service. You can activate ID Protection for a domain during the account activation procedure as well, but since the ID Protection service is optional, we’ll give you the opportunity to add it to any of your domain names at a later time if you think things over and decide to conceal your private details from the public after you have already ordered the account.
